Her career began at Nationwide Insurance, where she initially worked as an underwriter before transitioning to the technical support area. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for her later success in the agency setting.
In 2004, Kim joined the Skala Insurance Agency, a family legacy that dates back to 1969 when it was founded by her father, John R. Skala, Sr. Under Kim’s leadership as the Agency Owner since 2014, the agency has evolved to serve not just the current generation, but five generations of insured families. This longevity speaks volumes about the trust and loyalty that the agency has earned from its clients over the years, many of whom have been with Skala Insurance for over thirty years.
Kim’s role at the helm of Skala Insurance Agency is characterized by her proactive involvement in the local community. She is an active member and Treasurer of the Geauga County Red Key Network Women’s Group and actively sponsors the local Chambers of Commerce and school districts, leveraging these platforms to foster connections, share insights, and advocate for women in business.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kim’s personal life is filled with warmth and joy. Married with two daughters, she balances the demands of entrepreneurship and family life. She loves spending time with her husband, girls, their 3 cats, and their family dog, Pocahontas. Kim’s interests extend to the natural world, with a particular fondness for butterflies and owls, reflecting her appreciation for the beauty and mystery of nature.
